I married Pam in 1992, just two months after we graduated from college. One word that people have used to describe her over the years is “sweet”. We have two children- Lauren age 13 and Logan age 11. They are “little clones” of their parents- please pray for them!
When I was about 12 years old, I was drawn and impacted by Colossians 1:10- “so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
Since 2007
I handle most of the teaching in the PM service, and handle most of the administration. It gives me particular joy to connect people to ministry and mission. Besides serving in my executive role, I also coordinate our Community Groups, Promise Kingdom, and new members into the life of Trinity Church. I really enjoy meeting new people and learning about their story.
The people to whom God is changing into His followers is what makes me get up in the morning. We have been able to see young people right thru seasoned Christians embrace Jesus’ mission to make disciples. The difficulty in any ministry is to see those struggling with a relationship with Jesus- it is for those that are hearts particularly ache.
Reading is one of my favorite things to do- I rarely go anywhere without a book. I am a big fan of David Martyn Lloyd Jones and Tim Keller. Recently I have benefited from the writings of Bryan Chappell (Holiness, Praying Backwards, Christ Centered Preaching) and various authors from the Leadership Network. I owe a debt of gratitude to the authors of Total Church, Exiles, and the writings of Brad Powell for shaping my thoughts on missiology. No one should enter the ministry without reading Charles Bridges classic work- “The Christian Ministry” .
I love to watch and play sports especially football, hockey and basketball. (I still can talk game!) I currently coach a middle school boys basketball team in the city and have been involved in coaching locally. It won’t take long for you to figure out who I root for. I also enjoy watching my kids play sports.
Probably Peter. Peter was a great leader and had an unbelievable zeal for Jesus. As oftentimes is the case, someone’s greatest strength is also their greatest weakness. Peter did some crazy things like chopping off a guy’s ear, denying Jesus, and perpetually being more verbal than cerebral. But God bestowed grace on him even in his shortcomings and used him for His kingdom.
I had my eye on Pam for a little while- our junior year she passed me on the sidewalk at college- as they say “just one look that’s all it took”. God has incredibly blessed me with her- she is the complete package. She is a great wife, mom, Christian, understands mission, and even tolerates my affinity for athletics.
I would like to see God uniquely equip people at Trinity to take the gospel to the uttermost parts of our world. To see people who call Trinity home considering themselves missionaries like they were on a foreign field. My hope is that we wouldn’t be satisfied with “doing church” but “being the church”.
